Canon GPS Module GP-E2 for 5D MARK III

(no ratings yet)

The Canon GP-E2 GPS Module adds a highly desired feature to EOS 7D (with firmware update), EOS-1D X, and EOS 5D Mark III cameras. It provides GPS data and time functions to these cameras, helping photographers track and organize their images. Connectable in two ways: directly to the camera hotshoe, transferring GPS data via the hotshoe (with compatible cameras*), or mounted on a bracket and connected with a cable. When connected, it offers latitude, longitude, altitude, direction, and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) (all recorded in EXIF data fields). The unit can also be used without connection, stored in your camera bag or pocket. While not connected, it records location intervals set by the user, from every second to every five minutes. These data are then used with included Map Utility software. Map Utility displays a map with your GPS track overlay and lets you link images to the track, extracting GPS data for EXIF fields. Compatible with any EOS digital camera. In recording mode, GPS tracks are stored in the unit's internal memory. The more frequently points are recorded, the quicker the memory fills up; at the default interval of 15 seconds, assuming eight hours of recording daily, space is sufficient for about two months before filling.
